Every student who has declared a nursing major at ATU is
assigned a faculty advisor. Working together, the student and
advisor plan the student's schedule of courses for each semester, prepare the
application for admission into upper division nursing courses, and
during the junior year develop the transcript evaluation for
graduation. In addition, students should consult with their
advisor about any academic problems that they encounter during
their career at ATU. We feel that close relationships between the
students and their advisors in our Department greatly facilitate
good communication. A student may request a change of advisor by
taking the request to the chair of the Nursing Department.
Lists of advisors and advisees are posted on the bulletin
board in Dean Hall between Room 220 and Room 221. Office hours
for advisors will also be posted on the bulletin board.
Directions For Advisement Appointments and
Registration
To Schedule An Appointment with an Advisor:
The secretary will direct the student to his or her advisor
for scheduling all appointments during general advisement or
registration. If the student calls for an appointment and the
advisor is unavailable, the secretary will take a message and the
advisor will call the student to schedule an appointment.
Fall and Spring Pre-registration:
For Fall and Spring pre-registration each student should
schedule an appointment by signing the schedule form on the
bulletin board in Dean Hall between Room 220 and 221. Each
advisor will have a sign-up sheet in this location prior to fall
and spring pre-registration. During pre- registration, advisement
will be byappointmentonly.
Fall and Spring Registration:
During Fall and Spring regular registration there will be
advisors available to register all students. If the student
wishes to see his or her assigned advisor, the student is
responsible for making an appointment directly with the advisor.
Summer Registration:
Specific dates assigned by the University for registration are
on the academic calendar located in the ATU Catalog. On these
dates, assigned faculty advisors will be available for
registration.
Drop and Add:
Students who wish to drop or add courses must obtain the forms
from the Registrar's office, and bring them to be signed by
available faculty in the Nursing Department.
Registered Nurse(RN) and Army Medical Department Students
(AMEDD)
Each incoming student is assigned to a faculty member at the
beginning of their course of studies. These faculty members
follow the student's progress and are available on a regular
basis for academic counseling and registration. Dr. Cheryl Smith sees
all RN's and AMEDD students on the main campus.
