River Valley Military Outreach
What you can do: The Department of Nursing and Student
Nurses Assn are working with the River Valley Military Outreach to send care
packages to our troops overseas. We will be accepting gifts (such as
snacks, clothing, beverages, batteries, DVD's, CD's, etc.) in Dean 218 until
Friday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m. Help will be needed to assemble the
care packages on Saturday, April 26 at 9:00 a.m. at Legion Hut (near train
depot).
Choices Pregnancy Resource Clinic (967-2255)
What you can do: Volunteer to help in the family thrift store, open
10-2 on Tuesday and 2-6 on Friday. Can go through volunteer classes and
help teach basics in childcare, basic office work, go to schools to help teach
abstinence programs, etc. Choices is a life-affirming agency providing
medical diagnosis and confirmation of pregnancy, education on abortion and
alternatives, education on lifestyle and relationships, and education on sexual
health.
River Valley Shelter for Battered Women and Children

What you can do: Volunteers needed to assist clients with cooking,
cleaning, childcare, etc,; assist children with playtime, reading,
entertainment, help develop parenting skills, basic office work; work the
hotlines; yard work; help receive, sort, and organize donations; organize and
implement fundraising events.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas

What you can do: 2 Programs: School Based: 1 hr/wk at school,
sitting at lunch, recess, etc. Community Based: 8-12 hrs/month, hang out,
help with homework, interact and play.
Make a Wish Foundation (501-376-9474)
What you can do: Once a child is deemed medically eligible, a team of
two volunteers, called the wish team goes to the family home and help the child
explore their imagination for the experience that will delight and inspire them
for their one true wish. After determining the child's wish, the
volunteers fill out paperwork to send in the Make-a-wish foundation. The
foundation then works out the logistics of granting the wish. When it is
time to notify the child and their family that the wish has been granted, the
wish team are allotted $300 to throw a wish granted party. This party is
usually themed to the child's wish. They also need help with fundraising
ideas and monetary donations are always accepted.

What you can do: We can come up with a nursing based, educational type
program. Help with a health fair, take blood pressure, BMI, CBG's as a
group. Individuals can help as a computer instructor, exercise leader, art
instructor, etc.
